Very often, we talk about agile communications as the ability to react quickly and move fast. But it’s much more than that!
Agile comms starts with a mindset change that combines smooth internal collaboration with well-established external partnerships.
Both levers work together: if you have great internal systems and a strong external network, you’ll be able to communicate quickly and efficiently.
This is the concept I discussed in the Stories & Strategies podcast, where we explored how agility is essential to succeed in today’s ever-changing digital landscape.
In this podcast, I talked about the success of organizations like the Global Partnership for Education, who pivoted quickly and adopted virtual platforms during the pandemic for the #RaiseYourHand campaign.
We discussed the importance of listening to audience feedback on social media, using search engine optimization (SEO) to increase your visibility online, the potential of data journalism, and the tools you can use to respond quickly to changing circumstances.
I also spoke about our frustration, as communications professionals, when we work hard to write engaging blog posts and inspiring case studies, but then no one reads them!
That’s why the World Bank’s digital communications team has focused on improving SEO (Search Engine Optimization) across all its websites, offering training and tools for all communications colleagues to write better articles, blogs, and web pages that use search-optimized keywords.
The results have been tremendous, helping them to boost their ranking on Google, increase traffic, and improve trust online.
A big thank you to Doug Downs, SCMP, for his enthusiasm and engaging questions about the future of digital comms. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussion!
I invite you to listen to the first podcast below:
The following week, Doug Downs interviewed me on the importance of adopting a repurposing mindset, exemplified by UNDP’s #DontChooseExtinction campaign that developed a year-long campaign that included thought leadership research, surveys, events for various industries, influencer marketing, and even a children’s book!
The campaign’s dinosaur @FrankietheDino inspired us to talk about virtual influencers and their potential to reach new audiences.
